Why Do You Need To Install SSL Certificate On Your WordPress Website?
SSL Certificates are small data files which are digitally attached together and form a cryptographic key to the organization’s private details. Actually, SSL Certificates are the backbone of our websites because it protects your sensitive information which travels across the world’s computer networks.
SSL Certificates are essential for protecting your website details. Basically, SSL is used to secure online transactions, data transfer and user logins on your website. But if your website does not handle online transaction then SSL can provide you security, privacy and data integrity for your website as well as the user.
So I think this is enough to tell you why you need an SSL Certificate on your website. Now let’s see
How To Install Free SSL Certificate On Your WordPress Website?
STEP 1: Go To CloudFlare.com And Sign-up for a new account.
STEP 2: Now Select The Free Plan and then click on confirm.
STEP 3: Now after selecting the plan, click on next until it will ask you to update the nameservers of your domain name. So go to the website from where you have bought the domain name and login to your account. In my case, it is GoDaddy.com
STEP 4: Go to My Products and select the domain name you have bought for your website. And then click on DNS.
STEP 5: Now you have to update your nameservers you got from CloudFlare.
STEP 6: After updating the nameservers, go to your WordPress Dashboard, then go to Plugins and click on Add New. Now search for “Really Simple SSL”, Install it and activate it.
After installing, you don’t have to do anything. It will automatically detect the SSL Certificate on your website provided by CloudFlare after one or two days. When it will detect the certificate, it will show you a message on your dashboard. Now you only have to click on “ACTIVATE” and it will activate the SSL Certificate on your website.
Just do not forget to change your website URL in Google Analytics from “http” to “https”. Also, add the https version of your website in Google Webmaster Tools.
